Steam View is a terraced holiday cottage which comfortably sleeps four people. We also welcome children, who can play in peace and safety in the valley, and see our chickens, sheep and goats at the bottom of the garden. This part of the garden is the perfect place for a barbeque, and although the garden is not fenced in, we do accept up to 2 well behaved dogs, as there is plenty of scope for excersise and walks.

The cottage is totally non smoking, It is situated in a peaceful, rural setting, in the Esk valley, 2 miles from the village of Egton - where there are several good pubs serving excellent food. The North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR) steam trains pass right across the front of the cottage, enhancing the surrounding views of the Yorkshire Hills. Goathland, where Heartbeat is filmed, is just a short drive across the moors. The cottage is an excellent base for walking, or exploring further afield. Whitby and Robin Hoods Bay are both less than 10 minutes away, and Castle Howard, Scarborough and York are all less than an hour. The NYMR station at Grosmont, is just a mile walk, along the rail trail, past the engine sheds, where you can board a steam train for a panoramic journey through the breathtaking countyside, to the market town of Pickering.

Andy and Jean, the owners, live only a few doors away, and are always there to help if needed!

Esk Valley shares its place in the history of local industry. In 1860 work started on the nearby ironstone mines, and a row of four cottages was built for the key workers at the site. Beneath the living quarters could be found a blacksmith's shop, a joiner's, a tiny office and a washroom. A few years later, as the workforce increased, a row of 24 cottages was built on the other side of the track, and were rented to the ironstone workers for 2 shillings and 6d per week. Esk Valley relied on the railway to bring provisions and coal until 1951, when the community raised enough money to construct the steep road leading down the hill, which is the road that will bring you down to Esk Valley. Steam View cottage is no: 15
